What is a fragrance wheel?

  • A fragrance wheel is a diagram that displays the different families and sub-families of fragrances.

    — There are 4 families and 14 sub-families.

  • The four main fragrance families are Floral, Oriental, Woody and Fresh.

  • Within each family contains sub-families. Floral Oriental, Soft Floral, Floral, Fruity, Green, Water, Citrus, Aromatic, Dry wood, Mossy wood, Woody, Woody oriental, Oriental, Soft oriental. Check it out below!

    • Floral: This scent category is exactly what it sounds like. Notes of freshly cut flowers, think Roses, Lilies, Baby's Breath.

    • Soft Floral: This sub-family of floral is softer, powdery, creamy. Think Lavender, Jasmine, Peony.

    • Fruity: These scents are tropical and sweet. Think apple, peach, raspberry.

    • Floral Oriental: Floral with a hint of spice. Think Rose with a hint of Cinnamon. Sweet and spicy.

    • Oriental: This sub family is warm and sweet. Think notes of vanilla and nutmeg.

    • Woody Oriental: This category is earthy; these scents contain notes like Sandalwood and Patchouli. These notes can also contain sweet and spicy notes like Neroli and Basil.

    • Soft Oriental: Soft floral notes mixed with incense and warm spices. Think Cinnamon, Clove, White Florals, hidden notes of Black Pepper and Orchids.

    • Woody: Woody scents, Cedarwood, Palo Santo, Vetiver, Hinoki.

    • Mossy Wood: This sub-family has a sweeter twist. These scents have sweet and earthy notes. Think Oakmoss and Amber.

    • Dry Wood: Smoldering, smoky aromas. Think Pine, Argarwood and Cedarwood. These scents are spicy and woody.

    • Fresh Aromatic: Clean, fresh herbs with floral or woody scents. Think Apple and Basil, Rose.

    • Fresh Citrus: Zesty and Tangy. Think Grapefruit, Bergamot, Lemongrass.

    • Fresh green: These scents are very natural and fresh, think freshly mowed grass and crushed green leaves, or Basil and Fir Balsam.

    • Fresh Water: Sea spray. rain, ocean. Think cucumber, lime or green leaves.
